Our Staff

Tina Smith is the owner and head teacher of North Whidbey Kid’s Academy, which she founded in 2006. She is a graduate of Coupeville High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education, from the Woodring College of Education at Western Washington University. Tina also holds a Master’s degree in Education from Grand Canyon University.

Prior to opening North Whidbey Kid’s Academy, Tina taught first grade at Hillcrest Elementary School in Oak Harbor for nine years. Before that, she completed long-term substitute teaching assignments in both second- and third-grade classrooms, eventually earning her own third-grade classroom, which she taught for one year.

Mrs. Smith also served as a faculty member for Grand Canyon University’s online Master’s in Education program, where she provided instruction using innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies, and current industry best practices.

Tina has been married to her high school sweetheart, David, since 1994. David is a graduate of Oak Harbor High School and earned both his teaching degree from Western Washington University and his Master’s degree in Education from Grand Canyon University. Mr. Smith has taught in the Alternative High School Program for the past 29 years and also serves as the high school varsity boys’ golf coach.

Together, they share their home with two beloved Cocker Spaniels, Charlie (the black one) and Oliver (the golden one). 🐾
