Our Staff

Tina Smith is the owner and head teacher of North Whidbey Kid’s Academy.  She opened the school in 2006.  She is a graduate of Coupeville High School.  Mrs. Smith earned her Elementary Education degree with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education at the Woodring College of Education from Western Washington University.  Tina is also a graduate of Grand Canyon University where she earned her master’s degree in Education.

Prior to opening North Whidbey Kid’s Academy, Tina was a first-grade teacher at Hillcrest Elementary in Oak Harbor for nine years.  Before she taught first grade for those nine years, she did a long-term substitute position in a second-grade classroom. Then a long-term substitute position in a third-grade classroom the following year.  Finally, Tina ended up with her very own third grade class for one school year.

Mrs. Smith also was a faculty member for Grand Canyon Universities online master’s in education program.  Tina was a part time staff member who provided online program instruction incorporating innovative teaching methodologies, cutting-edge technologies and other industry trends reflecting education.

 

Tina has been married to her high school sweetheart since 1994. David is a graduate of Oak Harbor High School.  He also earned his teaching degree from Western Washington University and his Masters Degree in education from Grand Canyon University.  Mr. Smith has been teaching for the Alternative High School Program for the past 25 years.  He is also the high school varsity boy's golf coach.

They have two Cocker Spaniels named Charlie (the black one) and Oliver (the golden one).
